The 4th Annual Kristela Cortez-King Fry Bread Social and Holiday Market was a resounding success, bringing together community, culture, and celebration.
Music, Fashion, and Cultural Expression
The event featured special music performances by NTG Wind Walker and Steph Cash, with a powerful appearance by special guest Texas Connection Drum Group. A highlight of the day was a stunning fashion show by Nan Blassingame that showcased creativity, culture, and artistry.
Tribal & Community Engagement
Tribal representatives from the Cherokee and Lipan Apache were in attendance, sharing information about their histories and ongoing work in Texas before, during, and after colonization. We were also honored to host 1718 Founding Families, Canary Islanders Descendants, A’Ho American Indians Higher Opportunities, San Antonio River Authority, Bexar County Heritage, San Antonio African American Community Archive & Museum, Arts Mesa, and Carl Fryar, who shared information on a new discovery related to his Dias ancestor.
Holiday Market & Fundraising Success
Our holiday vendors offered an amazing variety of items, making the market a vibrant shopping experience. The silent auction was a success, raising much-needed funds for our Founders Legacy Scholarship. And, of course, the fry bread was to die for — absolutely delicious.
