Debi Rivas
Co-Founder & Member at large
Debra Rivas is a proud descendant of native heritage, with her 4th great grandfather, Damacio de la Cruz, having served as the last Indian Governor at San Jose Mission. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Debra grew up surrounded by the rich traditions of her native roots, though she did not fully realize the depth of their influence until later in life.
As a behind-the-scenes Founder and Member at Large for the San Antonio Missions Indian Descendants (SAMID), Debra has dedicated herself to supporting the organization’s mission of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the indigenous people of the area. Her efforts also include her role as the Event Director for SAMID’s yearly Fry Bread Social and Holiday Market, a cherished gathering that takes place every November.
In addition to her contributions to SAMID, Debra is a businesswoman with entrepreneurial experience. She spent nine years in Florida running her own company, Flamboyance Estate Sales, a business that specializes in organizing estate sales. Recently, she returned to San Antonio, where she continues her work as an independent marketing and public relations consultant. She has also opened a South Texas branch of Flamboyance Estate Sales, further expanding her business ventures.
Debra is a proud mother of three children and grandmother to five, though her life has been marked by the heartbreaking loss of her oldest son in 2014. Through both personal and professional challenges, Debra has remained deeply committed to her heritage and to the preservation of her cultural legacy, continuing to build meaningful connections and support of her community.
