
Nehemias Moreno
Advisor -Education
Nehemias Moreno is a passionate advocate for education and indigenous history, deeply rooted in his heritage as a descendant of Damacio De la Cruz of San Jose Mission. With over 21 years of experience in education, Nehemias has dedicated much of his career to helping others recognize the power of learning, particularly within his own community.
Nehemias has served as an Advisor of Education for the San Antonio Mission Indian Descendants group, focusing on empowering individuals by fostering a deeper understanding of the rich history of the indigenous peoples who lived in the missions. He has spent 14 years as a high school Career and Technical Education teacher, where he guided students toward meaningful, skill-based careers. He then transitioned to working as an Education Consultant for a construction company for 5 years, before returning to the classroom as a Middle School Career & College Exploration teacher for the last 2 years. Additionally, Nehemias has taught immigrant children English and American history, making a lasting impact in their educational journeys.
Throughout his career, Nehemias’ goal has been to harness the power of education to uplift the Mission Indian Descendants and foster a better future for them through knowledge and opportunity. He believes strongly in education as a tool for empowerment, not only for the present, but for future generations.
Nehemias is married to Eva Jean Castellano Moreno, his partner of 35 years. Together, they share a love for travel, having journeyed across the United States and abroad. Their adventures have taken them to countries like Mexico, Honduras, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala, where they were honored to be a part of helping to build a Bottle School. Nehemias and Eva are proud parents of five children and grandparents to five grandchildren, always cherishing their family bonds.
Through his work, Nehemias continues to inspire and encourage others to explore the interconnectedness of culture, education, and community, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations of indigenous peoples.
